Citadel cadets will not march in Donald Trump’s inaugural parade due to inclement weather, other factors
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Citadel cadets will no longer participate in President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural ceremonies due to inclement weather in the nation’s capital.
Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony was moved inside the US Capitol building, and the parade was moved to an indoor venue, Capital One Arena, which will also provide a space for people to watch the ceremony.
The National Weather Service is predicting that the temperature will be around 22 degrees when Trump becomes president. The Associated Press reports it would be the coldest since Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration saw temperatures plunge to 7 degrees.
“We look forward to the next opportunity to showcase the talent and dedication of our cadets at a future national event,” The Citadel said. “We appreciate the time and effort our cadets spent preparing to march in this year’s inaugural parade.”
More than 100 South Carolina Corps of Cadets members were selected to march in the presidential inaugural parade, and Citadel leaders said Officials said cadets had been rehearsing “intensively” to prepare for the event.
