Snow and ice linger in the Lowcountry: When will roads be clear?
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – After a winter storm in the Lowcountry, ice and snow still linger on the ground, making the roads slick and difficult to navigate.
Storm Team 2 advises that early Friday morning, roadways will still be icy, and drivers should exercise caution if they plan to be on the road.
“We’re dealing with patches of black ice still, so be careful early this morning,” said Storm Team 2 meteorologist Grace Lowe. “If you need to be out and about, I’m going to say after 12 and 1 o’clock – because most of this will begin to thaw out as you head toward later this afternoon.”
Lowe says temperatures are starting to warm up and more melting is to be expected Friday afternoon. Temperatures will remain in the mid-40s from 12 to 3 p.m. when most melting will occur.
“We are going to be a lot warmer outside and more sunshine than we saw yesterday which will help us out a lot today. Now as things begin to melt we could see some large sheets of ice begin to fall off of rooftops,” said Lowe.
Officials are asking residents to clean off ice chunks from the roof of their cars before driving as it could be a flying hazard.
Storm Team 2 forecasts a refreeze to happen overnight, possibly causing more black ice into Saturday morning.
