7 in-custody after mass deportation demonstration in Marion Square
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Seven individuals were arrested Wednesday evening at a demonstration in downtown Charleston.
The demonstration was in protest of mass deportations being carried out across the country by ICE agents ordered by President Donald Trump.
Sgt. Chris Stinson, spokesperson for the Charleston Police Department, said all seven individuals were arrested and charged for disobeying lawful orders.
Demonstrators gathered in Marion Square at 6 p.m. and were told to disperse by police shorty after 7 p.m.
Law enforcement announced that all in attendance had three minutes to leave the scene.
More information on the situation is expected to be released Thursday, according to Sgt. Stinson. The identity of those arrested was not immediately available.
