Crews respond to gas leak on Gordon Street
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Crews are responding Monday to a gas leak in a neighborhood on the peninsula.
The Charleston Police Department is assisting the Charleston Fire Department with the gas leak on Gordon Street.
Charleston Fire officials told News 2 that approximately six people were moved to St. Luke’s Church while the leak is addressed.
Police say Gordon Street is closed between 8th Avenue and 11th Avenue.
Paul Fischer, a spokesman for Dominion Energy, said the utility provider was notified around 9:30 a.m. that a third-party contractor doing excavation work in the area damaged one of their natural gas lines.
He said crews are working to secure the line.
