Debris fire spreads to nearby vacant home
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A vacant home was damaged by embers from a nearby debris pile.
Crews from St. Andrews and Charleston fire departments were dispatched to a property on Wallace Lane for an outside fire that spread to a building.
Firefighters arrived to find an outside vegetation fire that had extended to a vacant single-family home on the property.
The St. Andrews Chief Fire Marshal investigated the fire and determined it was accidental. They said it was caused by embers from a pile of burning leaves and grass that was left unattended in windy conditions.
Officials said the fire was brought under control in roughly 20 minutes. No injuries were reported.
