Oceanfront hotel on Kiawah Island earns 5-star rating from Forbes Travel Guide

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD)—For the third year in a row, an oceanfront hotel on the shores of a Lowcountry barrier island earned a triple five-star rating from Forbes Travel Guide, making it one of only 14 properties worldwide to be designated with the honor.

The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, The Spa at The Sanctuary, and the Ocean Room, the resort’s flagship restaurant, were all awarded five stars by the independent global service that ranks the world’s luxury hotels, restaurants, and spas.

“We are deeply honored to once again be recognized by Forbes Travel Guide for achieving this recognition,” said General Manager Bill Lacey. “Being awarded Forbes’ highest rating is a remarkable testament to the unwavering service and genuine hospitality our employees deliver to our guests on a daily basis. I could not be more proud of our team for earning this achievement.

Forbes listed some inspector highlights, such as the décor, the fact that every room has either a balcony or terrace, the spa’s unique treatments, local artwork, and the renowned Ocean Course.

“The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island, a Five-Star hotel, resembles a grand seaside mansion,” the review said. “Set in the heart of a 10,000-acre barrier island and resort within a private gated community, The Sanctuary provides a spectacular beachfront setting, a Five-Star spa, and distinctive dining, including the Five-Star Ocean Room.”

The Sanctuary is a little less than 30 miles from downtown Charleston.
