Lowcountry residents declare support to protect public transit

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Lowcountry transportation advocates are meeting to declare a community commitment to protect public transit and construct the Lowcountry Transit System.

CARTA has scheduled a board meeting on Wednesday at 1 p.m., advocates are expected to declare their support for public transportation during that time.

“Trump’s and Musk’s proposed budget ends federal funding for public transit, which accounts for a third of CARTAs funding,” said advocates for public transit. “Trump is currently attempting to interrupt already scheduled grant funding for CARTA’s current operations, which could cause service cancellations and cuts in the next few months.”

The meeting is located at the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments building at 5790 Casper Padgett Way in North Charleston.

Count on 2 for updates on the meeting.
