18-year-old strikes victim with firearm during armed robbery, kidnapping

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – An 18-year-old was arrested Wednesday after he robbed and kidnapped a victim in Hemingway, the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to a location on Good Earth Drive on Jan. 31 for reports of an armed robbery. When they arrived, they learned the victim had been parked at 3077 South State Highway 41/51 when two individuals approached their vehicle.

One of the individuals pulled out a weapon and used it to strike the victim in the forehead. After the assault, the suspects stole items from the victim before forcing them to a location on Good Earth Drive and driving away in the victim’s vehicle.

Deputies identified Jakuan Canteen as a suspect and arrested him with the help of South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents.

Canteen was booked at the Williamsburg County Detention Center on charges of armed robbery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, second-degree assault and battery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and grand larceny.
