Spike Lee’s Enthusiastic Reaction

Lee shared his praises on social media four days ago (Mar. 8). The iconic director and filmmaker didn’t hold back his excitement, writing in his signature style, “I Just Had The Greatest Experience Of Watching A Film In Years. My Brother RYAN COOGLER Invited Me To Experience His New Film SINNERS (In IMAX).

He went on to celebrate Coogler’s “magnificent artistry as a storyteller” and praised Michael B. Jordan’s performance, stating that Jordan “Did His ‘THANG, THANG.” Alright now, Spike.

Lee also shouted out the film’s stunning cinematography, production design, costume design, original score, and visual effects, calling them “DOPE” and asking, “What Else Ya Want❓

Seated next to Coogler and his wife, Zinzi, Lee said he felt like he was “courtside at Madison Square Garden” watching his team “kick the Celtics in dat green ass.” He concluded his post by emphasizing the film’s deep cultural impact, saying, “Word Iz Bond I Haven’t Felt This Way In A Movie Theatre In A Minute. Last Thing I Told My Brother Ryan—‘He Really, 100, Tapped Into Our Ancestors On This Joint.’ AND DAT’S DA BLACK CINEMATIC POWER, TRUTH, RUTH. YA-DIG❓SHO-NUFF.”

Aside from Spike’s interesting grammar choices, he made us eager to watch the film for ourselves.

What We Know About Sinners

Coogler’s latest film has been shrouded in secrecy, but the details that have emerged are enough to get fans excited. Sinners is a 1930s-set vampire thriller that follows twin vampire brothers (played by Jordan) who return to their hometown, only to find that the Ku Klux Klan has taken control. The film is expected to be a bold and chilling exploration of race, power, and survival in Jim Crow-era America.

The star-studded cast includes Delroy Lindo, Jayme Lawson, Wunmi Mosaku, Omar Benson Miller, Hailee Steinfeld, Li Jun Li, and Lola Kirke.

A Major Moment for Black Cinema

With Lee’s resounding endorsement, Sinners is already generating major buzz ahead of its release. The collaboration between Coogler and Jordan has been a force in Hollywood, and this film is shaping up to be another groundbreaking entry in their partnership. If Lee’s reaction is any indication, Sinners will be a must-watch, blending horror, history, and the undeniable power of Black storytelling.
