D.L. Hughley On Bill Maher: “You Get To Be Neutral; I Don’t”

In the words of our guy D.L. Hughley, “If you’re a single, rich, straight white guy — you don’t have any kids and you’ve got a lot of money — there is nothing that Trump can do or has done that affects you on the margin.” That was his latest hot take while talking to TMZ Live recently on why men like Bill Maher can be “glib” in their support of the polarizing President Donald Trump.

The topic came up following the Real Time host’s recent visit to The White House for a meeting that, as you might’ve guessed, didn’t sit too right with D.L.

The main issue D.L. has with Bill — past acquaintances, as you’ll see in the photo above of the two at Hughley’s 40th birthday party back in 2004 — is his dismissal of the “woke” movement. As many Black people would agree, the ideology has always been a reminder for us as a community to always be aware of our surroundings in a world that has proven time and time again to be unequal when it comes to race. Maher on the other hand has viewed it, much like his new pal Trump, as an out-of-hand method of racial division that makes every issue in America about race. While it’s never a winning battle to say who’s right in a debate over politics, you can’t deny that D.L. is spitting when he said, “every time a Black person, or a woman or a gay person gets something, there are men who believe they only got it because of some set aside program.” Whether you agree with what he also said — “I think Bill Maher was integral in amplifying that message” — well, just watch the clip below and make a decision for yourselves.

Take a look at D.L. Hughley on TMZ Live below giving a very hot take on Bill Maher for his associations with Trump and anti-woke rhetoric:
