1 dead, 1 injured in Moncks Corner hit and run

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – One person was killed and another injured in a late Saturday night hit and run.

Chief Lee Mixon with the Moncks Corner Police Department said the crash happened around 11:30 p.m. near 1350 US Highway 52.

The driver of a black Mazda CX5 struck two people while they were walking to their car.

Both were taken to an area hospital with injuries; however, one of the victims did not survive.

Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell identified the victim as 

Chief Mixon said the vehicle should have heavy front end damage.

“We are devastated by this tragic loss of life and want to remind all drivers, if they are involved in a collision, to stop and provide assistance. We thank our law enforcement partners from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance, as well as the response from the Fire and EMS service” said Chief Mixon.
