Student found with loaded gun at Phillip Simmons High School
BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A student was apprehended Tuesday after they were found with a loaded gun at Phillip Simmons High School.
School officials were notified that a student had a firearm on campus around 9:30 a.m. Administrators and the school resource officer located the student and conducted a search where they found a loaded firearm.
The gun was confiscated without incident, the Berkeley County School District said.
No one was harmed during the incident. The school district is collaborating with law enforcement and following district policy to address the matter.
“As safety and security is our highest priority, we take all reports concerning safety seriously. Please continue to encourage your children to report any concerns they may have to a staff member so we can take the appropriate steps to maintain a secure environment on our campus. We appreciate the cooperation and support of everyone who is helping to keep our school safe,” the district said in a statement sent to parents following the incident.
