Man who tried to run from troopers was arrested in Dorchester County neighborhood, officials say
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A man who attempted to run from Highway Patrol was captured Tuesday in a Dorchester County neighborhood.
Deputies with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office responded to Lakewood Circle in the Ponds neighborhood to help the South Carolina Highway Patrol in apprehending a suspect who failed to stop for troopers and ran off.
Law enforcement set up a perimeter and began searching for the suspect, who was identified by deputies as 26-year-old James Edward Bunch of Summerville.
While K-9 deputies were tracking Bunch, dispatchers received a report of a suspicious person walking in the Ponds neighborhood matching the suspect’s description. Deputies responded, and Bunch was arrested.
Bunch faces a slew of charges, including possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine, driving under suspension, and failure to stop for blue lights. Additional warrants are pending out of Dorchester County.
“Let me be abundantly clear: if you attempt to evade law enforcement in Dorchester County, we will use every available resource to locate you, arrest you, and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law. I commend our deputies and our partners at the South Carolina Highway Patrol for their swift and professional work in apprehending this wanted criminal,” said Dorchester County Sheriff Sam Richardson.
Bunch is being held at the L.C. Knight Detention Center.
