Three in custody after shooting, standoff at Summerville apartment complex

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – The Summerville Police Department (SPD) on Wednesday responded to what they described as an “active incident” at the Bridge Point Apartment complex off of Trolley Road.

According to SPD, a report of a shooting came in shortly before 5:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Shell casings were found at the scene, but no injuries had been reported as of 5:30 p.m. At least one vehicle was struck by gunfire.

As of 7:00 p.m., officers said that the situation had escalated and the person believed to be responsible for the shooting was barricaded inside an apartment. The SPD SWAT Team has been activated.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m., News 2 crews at the scene reported that SWAT breached the apartment using a flash bang and multiple people exited.

Three people were peacefully taken into custody and will be taken in for questioning.

SPD said that a vehicle may have fled from the scene and detectives are working to determine if more people were involved.
