2 special elections happening in Lowcountry Tuesday
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)- Some Lowcountry voters will head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in two special elections.
Here’s what voters need to know:
Where are special elections happening?
South Carolina House District 109
Eduardo Curry II and Tiffany Spann-Wilder, both Democrats, will face each other in a special election primary for a South Carolina House seat vacated last year by now-State Sen. Deon Tedder.
Tedder vacated the District 109 seat, which covers portions of Charleston and Dorchester counties, after winning a special runoff election to fill the District 42 seat in the South Carolina Senate.
The winner of Tuesday’s primary will run opposed in the April 2 special election as no Republicans have filed for the race.
These polling locations will be open on Tuesday, with the precincts being served in parentheses:
Charleston County
- Azalea Drive Church of Church (North Charleston 2, 5)
- Miner Crosby Building (North Charleston 3)
- Garrett Academy of Technology (North Charleston 4, 19)
- W B Goodwin Elementary School (North Charleston 18, 20)
- Lambs Elementary School (North Charleston 21, 22)
- Hunley Park Elementary School (North Charleston 23, 24)
Dorchester County
- Dorchester County Library – NCB (Archdale, Archdale 2, Patriot)
- River Oaks Middle School (Ashley River)
- Windsor Hill Elementary School (Windsor, Windsor 2, Lincoln)
Polling locations are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Anyone in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote. Voters can verify their precinct by visiting scvotes.gov.
Town of Kiawah Island
Also on Tuesday, voters living on Kiawah Island will participate in a special election for town council.
Alex Fernandez and Madeleine Kaye are both running for the seat.
Registered voters can cast a ballot at the Sandcastle at 1 Shipwatch Road on Kiawah Island between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.. Anyone in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
Will I need a photo ID to vote?
Yes, when voting in person, you will be asked to show one of the following at your polling place:
- SC Driver’s License
- SC Department of Motor Vehicles ID Card
- SC Voter Registration Card with Photo
- Federal Military ID
- US Passport
Am I registered to vote?
You can check your voter registration status by visiting scvotes.gov and selecting “Check my Voter Registration.” You must enter your name, county, date of birth, and the last four digits of your social security number.
