Non-profit organization kicks off State of The South series

NORTH CHARLESTON S.C. (WCBD)— “Meaning Dignity in The Community“ is a non-profit organization serving communities for over 25 years. Each year, the organization tours around 13 states, addressing poverty, racial inequality, and economic insecurity.

This year’s State of the South series will explore themes like the southern experience for minorities, how education impacts economic well-being, and restructuring existing systems.

Leaders say their primary focus is to help black communities understand that resources are available to help impact their future.

“We’re focused on uplifting and celebrating the south and facing those challenges, and what’s centered to the work that we do is equity and particularly racial equity, and we are addressing issues that face black communities, and we work with a lot of these issues tend to impact black communities disproportionally,” said Clarissa Goodlett, a director of communications for MDC.

The first event will kick off Monday morning at the Opportunity Center in North Charleston beginning at 11 a.m.
