Georgetown County correctional officer assaulted by inmate: report
GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A correctional officer was assaulted at Georgetown County Detention Center on Saturday while passing out lunch trays to inmates.
The victim told Georgetown County deputies that she had opened the inmate’s door and noticed he was nude. But when she tried to close the door for his privacy, the inmate stuck his hand in the door, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.
When she opened it back up, the inmate allegedly yelled something at her and then slapped the officer in both of her ears with open hands, then struck her 3-5 more times with open hands on the sides of her head.
Deputies say the sides of her head were red. The correctional officer also informed deputies that she could feel swelling and could not close her jaw all the way.
The victim was checked out on-site and then taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The inmate was issued a warrant for assault on a police officer.
