Romance movies filmed in Charleston and beyond

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Valentine’s Day will soon be upon us, and as you’re picking out your favorite romance movies, take a closer look – some might have been filmed in your own backyard.

The Notebook (2004)

Some say The Notebook is one of the most notable romance movies of all time. Its filming locations include the Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, The Cypress Gardens in Moncks Corner, Edisto Island and Charleston. The infamous house that Noah built for Allie is located at 204 Martins Point Road in Wadmalaw Island.

Dear John (2010)

It might surprise you that while John and Savannah were exchanging letters, filming was happening in Charleston, Edisto Island and Sullivan’s Island.

Naked (2017)

The time-loop comedy/romance by Marlon Wayans was filmed at the Second Presbyterian Church in Charleston, Riverfront Park in North Charleston, Woodlands Mansion in Summerville, The Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston and Mills House Wyndham Grand Hotel in Charleston.

Forrest Gump (1994)

Forest longs to be with his childhood sweetheart and while this movie has multiple filming locations throughout the U.S. – some scenes are filmed in Beaufort.

Cold Mountain (2003)

This movie is about a soldier’s journey home to his wife. While most of the filming took place in Romania, you can spot the College of Charleston’s campus during this flick.
