‘Absolutely disgraceful’: Bolduc blasts Trump for questioning whereabouts of Nikki Haley’s husband

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD)- Former President Donald Trump is drawing sharp criticism from some military members after he mocked Nikki Haley’s husband at a campaign event last weekend.

During a Saturday rally in Conway, South Carolina, Trump questioned why Haley’s husband, Michael, wasn’t on the campaign trail with her. He is currently deployed in Africa with the South Carolina Army National Guard.

“Where’s her husband? He’s away. What happened to her husband? What happened to her husband? Where is he? He’s gone,” Trump said.

Haley and her top allies have blasted the former president for his comments, suggesting that he is unfit to be Commander-in-Chief.

“The comments that President Trump made about Michael’s service, knowing full well where Michael was, and trying to attribute that to some other characterization is absolutely disgraceful,” Bolduc said during a Wednesday morning press conference at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant. “A president of the United States that can’t honor its fallen and those that have served is someone who should not be president of the United States.”

Trump’s remarks also got the attention of South Carolina voters, one of whom said he was now rethinking his support of the former president.

“I was favoring him, of course, and now I’ve gone to undecided,” said Andrew Brown, a retired Air Force veteran from Summerville. “It’s disheartening to hear him say that about any veteran.”
