Mount Pleasant business gets hit by car 48 hours after downtown restaurant gets hit

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD)- Last Tuesday morning, a car crashed into a downtown deli called The Pass.

Almost 48 hours later at 4 a.m. on Thursday, a different car hit an interior design store in Mount Pleasant, The Village Social.

“One of our friends was passing by to go to the gym and called us and said they had seen someone had hit the side of the building,” Co-owner of The Village Social, Dana Gentry said.

Two similar instances in two days, just miles apart.

Another co-owner of The Village Social, Kaitlyn Gentry says it doesn’t feel real.

“Shocked, but so glad no one was hurt and that we weren’t inside,” Gentry said.

Kaitlyn says the driver of the vehicle allegedly crashed into the building then drove away and parked the car down the road.

“They don’t know for sure but the report did say the driver was under the influence of something. Just for the safety of everyone, he really could’ve hurt himself or someone else, so I hope he’s held accountable,” Kaitlyn Gentry said.

News 2 has reached out to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, we are awaiting confirmation on whether the driver was under the influence at the time of the crash.

The car is now sitting at Coastal Automotive with significant damage.

However, both Kaitlyn and Dana say they’re choosing to focus on the positive.

As long as it takes to rebuild and get this back together, we’ll come back and it’ll be good,” Dana Gentry said.

They’re already making progress toward recovery.

After they made a social media post about what happened, the community rallied around them.

“The community has been incredible. The people from around here have flooded us with support,” Dana Gentry said.

As far as when The Village Social will re-open, the owners say they’re still not sure but repairs are moving quickly.

For now, they’ll continue to sell merchandise outside of the store.
