Flowertown Festival begins Friday and it’s part of a busy Lowcountry weekend
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Thousands of people will head to Summerville this weekend as the annual Flowertown Festival begins.
It’s just one of the Charleston area’s many springtime events, like the Cooper River Bridge Run, Credit One Charleston Open, and the Lowcountry Strawberry Festival at Boone Hall — all of which happen this weekend.
Flowertown Festival began over 50 years ago in 1973 and has become one of the southeast’s largest arts and crafts festivals.
From blooming azaleas to dogwoods, Summerville’s popular three-day festival is surrounded by the colors of spring. Those attending can enjoy a variety of flowers, vendors, food and arts.
Thousands are expected to be in attendance to not only celebrate the season and support local vendors but also the Summerville Family YMCA. Funds raised during the event support health, wellness and youth programs at the Y.
Organizers for this year’s festival say they are at capacity when it comes to vendors, so if you’re planning on heading to downtown Summerville this weekend, expect not only large crowds and plenty of booths to enjoy.
The festival begins at 9:00 a.m. on Friday and runs throughout the weekend.
