Sea Fox Boats withdraws request to discuss rezoning at former Baker Hospital property
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Sea Fox Boats has withdrawn its request to discuss rezoning at the old Baker Hospital property.
North Charleston Mayor Reggie Burgess said the boat manufacturer made the move during a Thursday night meeting. They were looking to build a new manufacturing facility on the now vacant land.
The 46-acre plot of land is currently zoned as residential. Sea Fox Boats wanted that space to be changed to industrial zoning.
Mayor Burgess told News 2 he would like to see the land used as a part to take advantage of the waterfront location.
“My passion is to take that land in the southern part of the city that we don’t have accesses like that and actually transition it to a park […] you can do canoeing there, you can kayak there, you can build piers there, and you can have cookout areas. We could do so much that would be family-oriented and greenspaces,” he said.
Mayor Burgess said he hopes to sit down with Sea Fox leadership over the next few weeks to discuss the next steps for the project and other possible locations.
