Nonprofit seeks community support repairing veteran couple’s home

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD)–After six months of waiting, the Kellar’s and a veteran-run nonprofit are asking for the community’s help finding a qualified contractor to make much-needed repairs on their home.

In January, the organization chose to have the family receive repair work on their home free of charge, such as replacing their roof and foundation, but once home inspectors came to view the house, things were brought to a halt. The new foundation would cost around $30,000 and require intense work.

“We’re sitting here months afterward, and nothing has happened to us that we have a new roof, and still, nothing else has happened, and we’re wondering why these companies haven’t come forward and haven’t helped us,” said Sue Kellar.

Leaders with Vettes for Vets said they find companies willing to donate everything from plumbing, flooring, appliances, exterior projects, and more. However, not having a qualified person to fix the foundation prolongs the process. They are now asking the community for support.

“We need the community to try to come in and help us with this. Once we get the foundation issue resolved, we can move forward with everything else coming right behind it. It’s already lined up, but we need to raise some money or have a foundation company that wants to jump in and help,” said Jason Dores, the founder of Vettes for Vets.

The Kellars said they just want to get their homes fixed, and despite the delay, they are hopeful someone will come forward.

“We want a foundation, and once we get our foundation done, our house will be done. We’re just pleading with these companies to come forward,” said Kellars.
