‘General Hospital’ actor Johnny Wactor killed in downtown Los Angeles, family says
LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — The man shot and killed during an attempted catalytic converter theft in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday has been identified as “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor, his family confirmed to Nexstar’s KTLA.
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to the area of Pico Boulevard and Hope Street around 3:25 a.m. Saturday and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police said the man saw three men stealing the catalytic converter from his vehicle. When he confronted them, they turned around and shot him.
The man, now revealed to be Wactor, died at a local hospital. The suspects have not been found, police said. No additional details were immediately made available.
His death, first reported by TMZ, was confirmed to KTLA by Wactor’s younger brother, Grant.
The 37-year-old actor and Summerville, SC native appeared as Brando Corbin in 164 episodes of the popular soap opera “General Hospital” between 2020 and 2022. He also appeared in other shows such as “Westworld” and “Criminal Minds.”
His acting credit also includes episodes of Lifetime’s “Army Wives,” which was filmed in his hometown of Charleston.
Wactor’s talent agent, David Shaul, released a statement to Variety on Sunday.
“Johnny Wactor was spectactular human being. Not just a talented actor who was committed to his craft but a real moral example to everyone who knew him. Standing for hard work, tenacity and a never give up attitude. In the highs and lows of a challenging profession he always kept his chin up and kept striving for the best he could be,” Shaul said. “Our time with Johnny was a privilege we would wish on everyone. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. After over a decade together, he will leave a hole in our hearts forever.”
