Crews responding to leaking propane tanker on Sullivan’s Island; some evacuated

UPDATE: Sullivan’s Island Town Administrator Joe Henderson said police only evacuated a one-block perimeter around the leak. He said roads are blocked from 20-25 with the causeway also blocked.
He estimated the duration to be 3-4 hours and said Charleston County Hazmat is on the scene working to plug the leak.
Officials said the propane truck was attempting to make a delivery behind Dunleavy’s Pub.
Sullivan’s Island Police Chief Glenn Meadows told News 2 that the leak has not been deemed an explosive hazard at this time. Still, a mandatory evacuation is in place for a ¼ mile radius of 2213 Middle Street for residents and businesses.

SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – Emergency crews are responding Monday to a leaking propane tanker on Sullivan’s Island.
Police said the tanker is on Station 22 1/2 Street near Dunleavy’s Pub.
An evacuation of a half-mile radius is underway, according to the Sullivan’s Island police chief.
The Ben Sawyer Bridge is closed to traffic.
Fire and police personnel are on scene evaluating the situation.
