New Charleston Police K9 ‘Luther’ apprehends first suspect
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The newest K9 added to the Charleston Police Department apprehended his first suspect on Sunday by tracking down a drunk driver who fled from a crash.
K9 Luther, named after former Charleston Police Chief Luther Reynolds, who passed away last year after a battle with cancer, apprehended a drunk driver in Sunday’s early morning hours.
Charleston Police said just before 2 a.m., officers responded to a collision near Huger Street and Elmwood Avenue. The driver of one of the vehicles involved fled the scene, and Luther was released.
Luther found the suspect hiding under some steps on Kenilworth Avenue shortly after. The suspect was arrested and charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident, according to police.
