Deadly Goose Creek apartment shooting suspect in custody
GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) – A family dispute turned deadly on Sunday morning at the Passage Apartments on Underwood Drive, where gunfire left one person dead and three others injured.
The Goose Creek Police Department (GCPD) responded to the scene at 11:28 AM after reports of shots fired.
Officers reported that upon arrival they found three individuals wounded and immediately administered first aid. Another victim, a juvenile, had fled the scene before officers arrived.
Investigators learned that three females, aged 18, 16, and 19, were either in or near a vehicle when a male relative, aged 18, approached and opened fire, GCPD explained.
Authorities said the suspect then shot himself, sustaining a non-life-threatening injury. He was apprehended after Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputies intercepted his vehicle near Roper Hospital’s Berkeley campus.
One of the females, 19-year-old Lorena Johnson, tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene, Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell confirmed.
The other two victims are currently hospitalized for treatment.
The investigation remains active as a homicide case as authorities work to uncover more details.
