Georgetown County School District received 22 applications during superintendent search; semi-finalists selected
GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Georgetown County School District (GCSD) hopes to announce its new superintendent by early October.
The district, working with the South Carolina School Boards Association, began searching for a new superintendent on June 1 after Keith Price accepted a job with Lexington County School District One in the midlands. His last day with GCSD was June 30.
Officials said applications for 22 candidates were received during the roughly month-long search. Those candidates were presented to the School Board on July 11 and whittled down to a pool of semi-finalists.
The first round of interviews will be conducted August 12-14 and finalists will be announced on August 20. Final interviews take place September 16-18, and the district said it hopes to announce the new superintendent on October 1 or 8, according to a timeline provided by the district.
Dr. Bethany Giles began serving the district as interim superintendent on July 1. She previously served as deputy superintendent and has over 23 years of experience in education – all of which is with the Georgetown County School District.
Dr. Giles did apply for the superintendent job; however, it’s unclear if she was selected as a semi-finalist.
