Did The Simpsons Predict Kamala Harris as POTUS? Show’s Writer Responds

Will another political prediction from The Simpsons come to fruition?

President Biden officially withdrew from the 2024 presidential election on Sunday, July 21st. In his announcement letter, he expresses his full endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as she now seeks Democratic nomination.

In the midst of celebrities, donors, and voters rallying in support of Harris, an interesting clip from The Simpsons circulates.

Episode 17 of Season 11, “Bart to the Future” (released in March 2000), shows Lisa Simpson becoming the “first straight female president,” with heavy implications that her term succeeds the presidency of Donald Trump.

Emmy-winning screenwriter Al Jean, who wrote for The Simpsons throughout the 80’s and 90’s, responded to the comparisons.

The Simpsons—the longest-running television series in history—established a reputation for having quite a few shockingly accurate “predictions”. Over the years, the cartoon’s clips have frequently resurfaced after fans realize that the storylines of old episodes undeniably mirror current events—occurrences in which the episodes precede the real-life events by several years.

The Collider curated a list of 45 of these ironic instances, some of which include Donald Trumps’ election and arrest, the Siegfried & Roy tiger attack, Walt Disney and Fox’s merger deal, etc.

Is it a coincidence or conspiracy? America will have to wait and see how this plays out.
