Sha’Carri Richardson‘s long wavy ponytail flew through the air as she sprinted across the track in the women’s 100-meter dash at the 2024 Olympics. The dominant display of her athleticism left her competition in the dust and proved she is one of the fastest women in the world (in case there was any doubt).

Sha’Carri’s debut at this year’s Olympics is a triumphant one. She was disqualified, in 2020 after placing first at the United States Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Oregon when her urine tested positive for THC. She was suspended for a month and though she was able to qualify for the women’s 4×100-meter relay race, she wasn’t picked for the team.

The gold-medal-winning runner revealed she had smoked marijuana while coping with the death of her biological mother. Sha’carri’s story made headlines and the Black community defended her against harsh criticism. She earned a permanent place in our hearts.

“To be at the Olympics is a phenomenal feeling,” Richardson said. “To be an athlete here, competing with the energy here with a great appreciation for track and field, I’m super excited and eager to compete on the Olympics stage.”

Millions of fans have tuned in to watch Sha’Carri Richardson race across the finish line. At one point, she points to her intricately designed acrylics to the sky.
