Georgetown County upgrades to OPCON 2 in preparation for Hurricane Debby

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Georgetown County government has increased its alert status to OPCON 2 as Hurricane Debby moves closer to South Carolina.

The county’s Emergency Management Division decided to upgrade to OPCON 2 at 8 a.m. on Monday in preparation for Hurricane Debby. OPCON 2 reflects an “enhanced awareness” of a potential or impending threat.

Georgetown officials say the county is bracing for heavy rainfall and potential significant flooding.

“Take time now to review your family’s emergency plan, inventory your disaster supply kit and prepare your property for possible impacts,” said Brandon Ellis, Georgetown County Emergency Services Director. “Be sure to monitor trusted information sources, including the county’s website and social media accounts.”

The Georgetown County Emergency Operations Center has not yet been activated at this time, but staff is on standby, according to Georgetown County officials.
