When it comes to sampling, it could go two ways: It could be really good… or really bad.

Well, let Jon B. tell it, a recent sampling of one of his signature hits went really, really bad.

The R&B veteran recently stopped by the Can We Talk R&B? podcast, where he broke down some of his records. When the conversation turned to his biggest record, the Top 10 hit “They Don’t Know,” he revealed that he had a bone to pick with a couple of individuals who recently sampled the record.

The culprits: rapper Gunna and R&B siren Chlöe, who sampled the track for their 2022 collab, “You & Me.”

Needless to say, Jon had absolutely nothing nice to say about the record.

“It does get sampled every year by someone. Last year, it was Gunna and Chlöe Bailey…they put that ratchet record out that I couldn’t stand. And I wish they never did.

To add insult to injury, Jon also claims that Gunna sampled the track without his permission.

Actually, never got my rights to do that record either. So…uhh Gunna, we gotta holla about that. That’s some business s**t we gotta handle.

REACTIONS:

Of course, social media has been buzzing about the revelation. While many agree that the sample was trash, some did take issue with the fact that a white artist used the word “ratchet” toward Black artists.

Sometimes, it’s best to leave the classics alone…and it looks like one of those times. Oh well.
