Bus stop hiccups create problems during first week of school
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — Thousands of students across the Lowcountry return to school this week, and with that, parents say there have been some issues concerning bus transportation.
One parent told News 2 that the bus dropped her child off half a mile from their home, while other parents said they were unclear where their child’s bus stop was located.
News 2 reached out to several local school districts for answers.
Charleston County School District (CCSD) leaders said, as with every other year, that bus-related challenges are not uncommon. The district provides transportation through First Student for nearly 22,000 students for 78 schools and programs. Throughout the 1,300-square-mile county, district leaders said there are 5,470 stops.
CCSD leaders said because of the scope of this service, issues can arise. They recommend parents fill out a bus transportation complaint and feedback form so they can address concerns within 24-48 hours.
Berkeley County School District leaders said principals have or will be sending information directly to parents. They also recommend calling the child’s school with any questions.
Some bus routes are also still being impacted by flooding due to Tropical Storm Debby. Colleton County School District is offering transportation hubs for impacted neighborhoods and Dorchester District 2 leaders said they are working with students who were affected. Parents of Dorchester School District 2 should also use the My Ride K-12 app for bus route information.
For Dorchester District 4, parents can visit their website for information.
