Affidavit: Woman jumped from moving vehicle to escape kidnapping

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A man has been arrested by Charleston deputies after a woman reported she escaped a kidnapping in the Charleston area.

Michael Latroy Cohen, 45, of Hollywood was arrested on Friday after a woman reported she was kidnapped and escaped.

Deputies interviewed the woman who stated she had been kidnapped by Cohen the evening before on Thursday from her home in the 4800 block of Erika Place in Hollywood.

According to the affidavit, the woman says she jumped out of a moving vehicle to escape Cohen.

She states that she and Cohen were friends, and she was aware that he struggles with drug and anger issues. Documents report she claimed that Cohen had broken into her home, brandished a weapon, and forced her to get into her car to withdraw money for him.

The woman said that Cohen drove to several banks throughout the night, forcing her to withdraw money until she finally jumped out of the moving vehicle in the area of Sam Rittenburg and Ashley River Rd.

Authorities received multiple calls Friday evening from residents stating they spotted Cohen. Officials state he was taken into custody without incident near the 6200 block of Highway 162 in Hollywood.

Cohen is charged with one count of Kidnapping, one count of Burglary in the First Degree, one count of Grand Larceny Greater than $10,000, and one count of Strong Arm Robbery.

He was given a $1,000,000 bond during a hearing.
