President Biden to survey damage from Helene during visit to Carolinas

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)- President Joe Biden will travel to the Carolinas on Wednesday to survey the damage left behind by Helene.

Biden is scheduled to visit Greenville, S.C. in the morning where he will take an aerial tour of areas impacted by Hurricane Helene, according to the White House.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster will be among those meeting with the president during his visit. He is scheduled to greet Biden when he arrives in Greenville, and then give a briefing on the state’s recovery efforts.

Members of South Carolina’s congressional delegation, including GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham, are expected to join in the briefing, according to the senator’s office.

The president will then travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a fly-over of impacted areas and an operational briefing at the city’s emergency operations center.

His visit to the Carolinas comes as the death toll from Helene continues to rise. More than 160 people have died across six states, making it one of the deadliest hurricanes in U.S. history.

Millions of residents still lack running water, cellphone service, and power as of Wednesday morning.
