John Amos’ Daughter Learned About His Death 40+ Days After His Passing

Shannon Amos, daughter of Good Times actor John Amos, announced that she and her family found out about her father’s death “through the media” after the news broke on Tuesday, October 1—more than one month after the date of his death, which is reportedly August 21.
She revealed that the family is “devastated” and “left with many questions”.

In 2023, John Amos’ children—daughter Shannon (58) and son K.C. (54)—circulated the headlines on several occasions for a sibling feud that led to claims (against each other) of the alleged elderly neglect and abuse of father. As reported by PEOPLE, the LAPD launched an investigation into the allegations of neglect of care in April 2024, PEOPLE confirmed. According to TMZ, the LAPD found no evidence of wrongdoing and concluded it was a matter of a family dispute.

Shannon took to Instagram to share a video reel of her and her father, writing the following:
I am without words…Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21st.
We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you.
This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free.
My family and I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love, calls, and texts. Please continue to hold our family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.
