The Fumble: LeBron James & Bronny Make History While Execs Question His Talent, Predicting WNBA’s Popularity In Future, & More

After a long week in sports, it’s time to recap everything that happened, including a history-making moment.

On the latest episode of The Fumble, our hosts Rodney Rikai and Samaria Terry dig deep into LeBron James and Bronny James becoming the first-ever father-son duo to play together in a preseason NBA game.

The monumental moment came at the beginning of the second quarter during last Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Suns. However, don’t forget that Bronny was the 55 pick in the second round of the NBA draft, and his performance wasn’t too impressive.

Since LeBron dropped 19 and Bronny only had 2 points, Terry is quick to bring up the report that unnamed NBA executives are questioning the 20-year-old’s place in the NBA.

Rikai says that because of the cardiac arrest he suffered while at USC, he missed a chunk of this season and wants to see his rookie season as an extension of that.

“I’ll be honest, he doesn’t look like he’ll be a big contributor this year, but I’ve always felt like Bronny will have a game that will work in the NBA,” Rikai said. “I think it’s going to take him a lot of time to develop a level of patience and understanding of how his skill set will fit onto an NBA team.”

While the NBA regular season hasn’t even begun, the WNBA Finals between the Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty are underway. With all the hype around the 2024 season, Rikai wonders if the hype will carry over to the next season and beyond.

Terry, however, is optimistic that fans buying into this season will tune in next season as new rookies bring more energy and players like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese improve their games. (But they’re both rooting for the Liberty this season.)

Elsewhere in the episode, the hosts tackle Alabama’s rollercoaster of a season and speak with former NFL player Ryan Mundy on the importance of mental health and how he’s helping empower his community.
