Colleton County Deputy involved in fatal shooting of subject armed with a knife

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office has requested SLED to investigate an officer-involved shooting that happened in the Ruby Tuesday parking lot Tuesday night.

Deputies were called to assist the Walterboro Police Department in response to a subject actively vandalizing vehicles in the parking lot by slashing tires and breaking windows. Citizens tried to approach the subject, but he was armed with a knife.

When a Colleton County Deputy attempted to engage, the subject refused to drop the knife and then attacked the Deputy with it.

As a result, the Deputy fired his weapon, and the subject is deceased.

SLED is conducting the investigation, and several witnesses are being interviewed.

It is standard procedure for the Deputy to be placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
