Moncks Corner PD awarded $100,000+ from Department of Public Safety

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – The Moncks Corner Police Department was awarded over $100,000 in grants by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety to buy new equipment and technology.

According to officials, the department has received $163,000 for the purchase of new Tasers. Officers will be upgrading from the X-26P, one of the first-generation Taser systems used by law enforcement, to the Taser 10, which is the latest model.

“The Taser is a vital, less-lethal option that reduces injury or serious bodily harm to the officer as well as those individuals who show active aggression towards law enforcement or other members of the community,” said officials with Moncks Corner Police Department.

The Department of Public Safety has also awarded the police department $2,600 to purchase CellHawk map software.

Officials explain that CellHawk is an investigative tool that allows law enforcement to map, connect, and analyze records and digital location evidence, which aids in prosecuting offenders.

Chief Young of the Moncks Corner Police Department said, “As technology advances for both law enforcement and the private sector, it is important that the Monck Corner Police Department keeps up and finds solutions that help improve evidence collection and ensure officers are equipped with tools to handle any situation they may face.”
