Long Live BeatKing: 10 Classic Party Anthems by Club God
Regarded by many as Club God “The Texas Uncle Luke,” BeatKing (real name Justin Riley) crafted a catalogue of hard-hitting club music that played a large part making Houston’s party scene one of the most attractive in the United States. Sadly, we lost the rapper on August 15, 2024 – just months before his 40th birthday.
BeatKing’s Celebration of Life Took Place on August 29th in Houston and as one of the guest speakers, Bun B found a brilliant way to celebrate the late rapper while reminding us all that BeatKing truly lived the life of his dreams.. on his terms.

From UGK to his solo drops, Bun has worked alongside rappers from across the map. Whether it be East Coast giants like Jay-Z, ATL favorites such as T.I. or Jeezy, or newer acts like Westside Gunn, there’s not much he hasn’t seen in the studio.
But on his first time linking with Beatking, he witnessed the late rapper/producer’s unique ritual for identifying a hot beat… a ritual that had Bun scratching his head a bit.
On his most recent album, Never Leave Houston On A Sunday, the rapper reflected on his career, sound and celebrated his beloved H-Town on the project’s outro track, titled “.. I Had To Remember.”
The great thing about moments like this is that not only are they authentic, but they offer a greater message: Beatking’s beat ritual may come across as odd the first time you see it.. but it was his thing. It was his system and it was part of the process that helped him become a Club God and put him in rooms with rap icons like Bun B.
Simply put, he lived a life that allowed him to earn a living doing what he loved, his way.
Long Live Club God.
