Charleston Police arrest teen following burglary at King Street jewelry store
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A teenager has been arrested following an early-morning jewelry store burglary.
Officers with the Charleston Police Department were sent to Croghan’s Jewel Box on King Street after receiving notice of a burglary alarm. Once there, they saw a broken window and immediately searched the area for a suspect.
Within minutes an officer said they noticed a male on King Street wearing a ski mask and carrying a bookbag.
The department said the individual was apprehended after a brief foot chase and found a hammer in his possession along with items that were stolen from the store.
Police say the suspect, a 17-year-old from Ladson, was charged with second-degree burglary (violent), and possession of tools to commit a crime.
Detectives also determined the suspect was responsible for a car break-in that happened just days prior on King Street. He is charged with theft from a motor vehicle and petit larceny in that case.
The 17-year-old was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
