Cardi B and Travis Scott Receive Invitations to Perform in China Following Kanye West’s Concert Success
China is looking to expand its live music scene after Kanye West’s impressive two-night sell-out shows in Hainan this past September.
West’s performances not only drew huge crowds but also generated substantial revenue from visitors.
As a result, tourism officials in China have reportedly extended invitations to other major U.S. rap artists, including Cardi B and Travis Scott, hoping to replicate this success and bring more global stars to the region.
Due to the overwhelming demand for West’s concerts, the second show was added at Haikou’s Wuyuan River Stadium.
Now, the city of Haikou, part of Hainan’s provincial capital, is working to position itself as a premier destination for major performances, seeking to attract top American rap artists to continue boosting both cultural exchange and economic growth in the area.
Wang Ke, the director of Haikou’s tourism and cultural bureau, shared the city’s vision of becoming one of the world’s leading venues for live entertainment, emphasizing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all artists and fans.
This initiative could provide a rare opportunity for Chinese audiences to experience rap’s biggest stars, while also allowing artists like Travis Scott and Cardi B to perform in a new market.
However, both artists have obstacles to tackle before they can commit to performing in China.
Travis Scott is currently involved in a legal dispute over his song “TELEKINESIS,” which has been accused of borrowing heavily from Victory Boyd’s 2019 track, “Like The Way It Sounds.”
Meanwhile, Cardi B is handling her own legal matters and the anticipation surrounding her long-awaited second album, which has yet to be released.
Given these challenges, it remains to be seen whether these stars, along with others in the hip-hop world, will be able to meet their project timelines and take the stage in China.
