Winter Storm Warning over the Lowcountry Tuesday; projected sleet and snow totals

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Storm Team 2 is monitoring a winter storm heading towards the Lowcountry on Tuesday and Wednesday. It could bring snow, sleet, and ice.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Colleton, Dorchester, Berkeley, and Charleston counties beginning 5 p.m. on Tuesday until 12 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Storm Team 2, precipitation is expected to begin close to 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Meteorologist Grace Lowe says to expect rain, sleet, and snow mix to start around that time closer to 6 p.m.

“By 9 or 10 [p.m.] most of this will be transitioning into snow into our overnight hours,” said Lowe.

By 5 a.m. on Wednesday, a few snow showers will still be lingering and the temperatures are still expected to be very cold.

Lowe says the forecasted sleet totals are higher in the coastal areas while snow totals are forecasted to be higher in the more inland areas.

“As you head towards Wednesday night into Thursday morning, you’re going to notice it’s going to be a lot colder out there. We’re forecasting possible wind chills in the single-digit values, especially within those inland areas,” said Lowe.
