It’s been three whole years now since the conversation surrounding the fall from grace of Wendy Williams began, yet we’ve rarely got a glimpse at the situation from her perspective aside from Lifetime’s ill-timed Where Is Wendy Williams docu-series released a year ago.

Well, that is until today.

TMZ partnered with streaming service Tubi to release Saving Wendy, an hour-long special that includes interviews with her niece Alex Finnie, Good Day New York anchor and friend Rosanna Scotto, Medicaid Advisory Group founder Ginalisa Monterroso, neurologist Leah Croll and most notably Wendy herself.

Although Williams is permitted from leaving her assisted living facility, TMZ was able to arrange a phone call with her while simultaneously (and cleverly!) getting a camera crew to film the former daytime diva directly into her apartment window from outside the building.

Immediately following the documentary’s release earlier today (Feb 12), the outlet also reported that Wendy signed off on an affidavit asking the judge to set her free with claims that she’s “regained capacity” without a guardian. More info below, via TMZ:

“Our sources say Wendy will be re-evaluated by a doctor next Tuesday … and this doctor was selected by the attorney Wendy has hired to end the guardianship. We’re also told the following day, her lawyer will file an Emergency Order to Show Cause — translation, a petition to force the issue with the judge who has the power to end the guardianship.

If the judge turns down the request to end the guardianship, we’re told Wendy will demand a jury trial where jurors will decide if Wendy has regained her capacity to run her own life without guardian control.”

Williams and her team are hoping the documentary will prove that she doesn’t have Frontotemporal Dementia as described by her guardianship back in November 2024. The way TMZ explains it, that condition is considered as being impossible to recover from. Anyone watching the doc, ourselves included, can clearly see the Wendy in this current interview conducted on January 20, 2025 is far from the troubled woman we saw in Lifetime’s docu-series.

A jury trial request will reportedly be Wendy’s next option if the judge chooses not to end the conservatorship, which we hope doesn’t go that far given the clear new evidence that her health has in fact gotten better over time.

Good luck, Wendy Williams! Take a look below at 20 of the most standout (and shocking!) things revealed in the Saving Wendy documentary by TMZ:

For a woman once valued at an estimated $20 million, a “glorified hotel room” seems unfitting to say the least.

7. The guardianship was sparked by her son, Kevin Hunter Jr.

In probably the most shocking revelation, Wendy’s official reason for guardianship is credited with her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., withdrawing large amounts of money from her account without her knowledge, which got flagged by Wells Fargo. Wendy herself states while recollecting on the turn of events, “My son, you know, overstepped his boundaries in terms of me, you understand? He overstepped his boundaries and he was inappropriately using my money without telling me crap about it. Like, is he stealing from me?!” Although Wendy says Kevin Jr. is still a good person, she also added she believes her son is “a horrible person to me.”

9. Kevin Hunter Jr. really did his mother dirty

Not only is Kevin Jr. accused of using Wendy’s money to rent a boat for his birthday, which started off as a $1,500 expense but ended up reaching a whopping $113,000, he even introduced his mom to a woman described by Wendy as being of her age group who later impersonated her to take even more money out of Wells Fargo. Neither side sees him as a suitable option to give responsibility of Wendy’s welfare, with the judge writing back in September, “While Mr. Hunter apologized for past mistakes and inappropriate behavior, the court is not convinced that he can keep her safe and wouldn’t willingly or unwittingly expose her to financial exploitation.”

11. The judge authorized Wendy’s guardian to make money off her

As TMZ’s Harvey Levin spoke with Wendy, he confirmed to her per court docs that Sabrina Morrissey, her guardian in question, got legally approved to make money off her client.

12. The judge has prohibited anyone involved in Wendy’s case to speak publicly about it

It appears for this reasoning, neither Morrissey herself nor Kevin Jr. could be involved in addressed what’s said about them in the Saving Wendy documentary.

13. Wendy hasn’t seen a doctor the entire time she’s been in her NYC assisted living apartment

Given the seriousness of her diagnosis, it’s mind-blowing to think it’s been that long since Wendy has received an updated medical evaluation.

14. She still wants to date

Although putting it a bit less explicit than she did back in July 2022, the message was clear: Wendy still believes in love! Preferably a divorcé like herself, though.

15. A sober coach for Wendy is being optioned in the event of the conservatorship ending.

15. A full plan is in place for the ending of Wendy Williams’ conservatorship, including a lawyer hired to get her out and a new medical evaluation as mentioned earlier. As for the latter, her guardian Sabrina Morrissey believes the diagnosis won’t change. As for Wendy, she says, “Don’t mistake my tears for weakness.”
