Man wanted in multiple counties arrested after pursuit

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A man wanted for charges in Georgetown and Charleston counties was arrested Friday following a pursuit.

42-year-old Marion J.C. Cooper was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, cocaine base, methamphetamine, and schedule II drugs, along with failure to stop for blue lights. Additionally, Cooper was booked for hindering police, littering, driving under the influence, and contempt of family court (x2).

Georgetown County deputies recognized him as a wanted man and attempted to stop his vehicle, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said. Cooper then fled on U.S. 17 south and, during the chase, was seen throwing a bag from his vehicle off the Sylvan L. Rosen Bridge near Maryville.

The pursuit eventually ended in the Santee area, and Cooper was apprehended. The thrown-out bag was recovered by K9 Dukat and contained narcotics.

Cooper is at the Georgetown County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
