Body found in pond: Mount Pleasant Police investigating death
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are investigating after a man was found dead in a pond along Wando Park Boulevard on Saturday.
According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, officers first responded around 2:35 a.m. to a report of a vehicle in the water.
The department’s Swift Water Team entered the pond but was unable to determine if anyone was inside due to murky water and the vehicle sinking too quickly.
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team was then called in, confirming the vehicle was unoccupied before helping remove it from the water.
Authorities say there was evidence that an occupant got out of the pond and left the area.
Officers attempted to locate the driver, using K9 units to track a potential occupant along Wando Park Boulevard, but the trail was lost.
Around 12:09 p.m., a missing person report led authorities to believe the individual may have been in the vehicle when it crashed into the pond.
The Dive Team returned, and at 3:55 p.m., they discovered a deceased male in the water.
Detectives, crime scene investigators, and the Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials have not released any additional details at this time.
