Rob Fowler gives update on severe weather threat for Wednesday

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A squall line set to move through South Carolina in the early morning hours of Wednesday into the afternoon is bringing a severe weather threat to the Lowcountry alongside damaging wind gusts.

Local residents can expect to be impacted by high winds, possible hail, and a small threat of tornadoes, according to Storm Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Rob Fowler. Damaging winds are defined as 50 mph or greater, and Fowler predicts that parts of the Lowcountry will see 67 mph or higher in isolated pockets.

Overall, the storm line is expected to impact the Lowcountry from 7 a.m. to noon.

By the time we see 9 a.m., wind speeds are expected to pick up as rain and clouds roll through, which is why several Lowcountry school districts have canceled classes or moved to online learning.

When noon rolls around, the majority of the storm line is expected to be east of Interstate 95, and when 5 p.m. comes, the system is expected to be drifting off into the coast.
