Lowcountry schools change schedule amid severe weather
COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Several Lowcountry school districts have decided to cancel or move to eLearning classes for Wednesday amid the looming threat of severe weather.
Berkeley County School District
The Berkeley County School District said all schools and district offices will be closed Wednesday, including before and after school care.
“Please note, Wednesday, March 5 cannot be designated as an eLearning day, as all five allowable eLearning days have already been used this school year,” the district said.
“BCSD closely monitors weather conditions in partnership with Berkeley County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service. District leadership may make further adjustments to school operations as necessary.”
Charleston County School District
The Charleston County School District has canceled school, kaleidoscope, extra-curricular and after-school activities for Wednesday due to the severe weather threat.
District officials said the designated weather make-up day will Monday, April 21.
Colleton County School District
The Colleton County School District announced the decision as forecasters predict damaging wind gusts, potential hail, and possible tornadoes.
“All afterschool and athletic activities will also be canceled Wednesday. In closing, the school district is committed to the safety and education of all students,” said Mary Fox, district spokesperson. “Our goal is to provide a secure and supportive learning environment, even in times of emergency. “
Fox also said any additional changes will be posted to the district’s website and social media pages.
Palmetto Christian Academy
PCA will be close Wednesday due to the severe weather threat.
Dorchester School District Four
Dorchester School District Four announced all schools and offices will be closed Wednesday due to extreme weather conditions.
“While canceling school is never our first choice, the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority,” district officials said. “We appreciate your understanding and will provide further information regarding the make-up day as soon as possible. No schedule changes have been made for this afternoon. Stay safe and take care!”
First Baptist School of Charleston
First Baptist School of Charleston will be closed on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, due to the threat of severe weather. All after school programs and athletics have been cancelled.
Dorchester School District Two
Dorchester School District Two has moved to an eLearning option for classes Wednesday amid predicted high wind conditions.
Students will receive information from their school and teachers regarding eLearning assignments and due dates.
All after school activities and LEAP Afterschool Program is canceled.
