Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team has accused CNN of mishandling crucial evidence in his ongoing legal battles.

According to TMZ, Diddy’s attorneys claim that CNN purchased the only known copy of a 2016 surveillance video showing Diddy assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in a Los Angeles hotel hallway. They allege that CNN altered this footage and subsequently destroyed the original, despite being aware of an ongoing federal investigation.

The defense asserts that CNN edited the video by covering the timestamp, altering the sequence, and speeding up the footage to make the actions appear more aggressive. They argue that these modifications result in a misleading portrayal of the events. The InterContinental Hotel, where the incident occurred, has since closed, and no other copies of the surveillance footage are known to exist.

Diddy’s legal team plans to file a motion to exclude the video from his upcoming trial. While the assault itself isn’t the subject of the current federal charges—due to the statute of limitations—prosecutors aim to use the footage to demonstrate a pattern of violent behavior. Courts typically require unedited footage as evidence, so the video’s admissibility remains uncertain.

CNN has not responded to these allegations. The Southern District of New York’s federal prosecutor’s office declined to comment. This development adds complexity to Diddy’s legal challenges, which include multiple lawsuits and criminal charges, with a trial set for May 5, 2025.
