Standing on the famed Hollywood boulevard, Ice Cube pressed his hands and feet into cement, joining a lineage of cinematic giants from Sidney Poitier to Whoopi Goldberg. Looking out at the sea of supporters, Cube held back emotion as he reflected on the improbable arc of his career.
“Today was legendary,” he captioned on Instagram, sharing snapshots from the day. “Left my prints in cement at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Honored to continue to receive my flowers in a business I never thought I’d be a part of.”
During his remarks, Ice Cube gave heartfelt thanks to his family for their unwavering support throughout his decades-spanning career. He also paid tribute to the late, great director John Singleton, whose faith in a young Cube pushed him to write his first movie script, kicking off a screenwriting and acting legacy that would influence generations.
Singleton, best known for “Boyz n the Hood,” not only directed Cube’s cinematic debut but also mentored him through Hollywood’s challenges, insisting that his authentic voice belonged on the big screen. “John Singleton saw something in me that I didn’t even see in myself,” Cube shared. “He pushed me to write my truth, and I’ll always owe him for that.”
There to celebrate with him, were other hip-hop icons like Xzibit, Redman, Killer Mike, and DJ Premier in the crowd. Cube’s people showed up and showed out, celebrating his place at the heart of Black culture. Xzibit summed up the feeling best, writing, “Well deserved and long overdue. Thank you for being the cornerstone for this thing of ours called West Coast Hip Hop. Don Mega. Salute.”
In addition to celebrating this momentous ceremony, Ice Cube announced that he will be hitting the road on the ‘Truth to Power 2025 Tour’.
The 21-city tour will be kicking off in Brooklyn, NY on September 4th, wrapping in Toronto, ON. on October 9th.
